Your description of how to install Java mods is wrong. The reason is that when you put the java file into the mod folder, it will just function as a basic mod until another one in another area of the ".minecraft" folder is beeing used. What I mean by this is:

1. Cut or copy the jar file, but don't yet paste it. 2. Open the folder for versions and create a new folder, however you'd like to call it 3. Copy the jar file into the folder you created. Copy the jar file to the folder once more and paste it with a different name 5. Open the jar file with notepad. Copy the entire text, and then close the file. Copy the file and delete it. Create an entirely new file (mostly a text file) and name it exactly the same as the jar file 8. Save the file with the same name as the jar files as a.json. Open the json file with Notpad and copy the next 10. Launch the launcher and choose the mod you "made

10,5. If this isn't working Follow these steps: Open the version folder. Select the folder that you don't need. If the mod uses 1.7.10 you will need to locate a folder that runs 1.7.10 minecraft version 12. Copy the jar file into the folder you chose and rename it exactly the way the json file's name is 13. Launch the launcher and choose the version you want to use.

If you're unable to locate the folder then go back to the version folder, check the folder after the last edit and rename it to whatever you like. I suggest that you rename the files within the folder exactly the same way as the folder's name is.
